The Simpsons Being Edited After Japanese Nuclear Disaster
Several of “The Simpsons” episodes have been banned from the air at the heels of the current nuclear crisis in Japan.
Broadcasters in Germany, Australia, and Switzerland have decided to pull at least eight episodes of the hit show, produced by Gracie Films, due to the current nuclear crisis at the tsunami-damaged Fukushima plant in Japan. Much of the comedy of the award winning show revolves around main character Homer Simpsons’ safety job at the nuclear power plant in their hometown of Springfield.
“All new and repeat ‘Simpsons’ episodes are, as a matter of course, reviewed before going to air in case sensitive issues are detected, particularly during natural disasters,” Australia’s Channel 10 spokesperson said. “In light of this, we have decided to rest certain episodes that refer to nuclear power storylines.”
Just my take here but The Simpsons often was meant as a criticism of nuclear power and the placement of a nuclear power plant right in the middle of the city was meant to show the hazard of it.
